Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, limited availability in stores.. I bought the jacket a few weeks ago and have worn it since getting the feel for ski season. It was very difficult to find anyone that carriers the jacket in their stores to try on and buy so wasted time ordering a large that usually fits, however the sleeve design is tight around wrists, so had to return for XL. The new size is much better gives more room for more than a single thin base layer and allows for relaxed fit. The long sleeve with thumb opening is not my desire but know many individuals like it, overall a good jacket just not sure the mid layer is priced well, if reduced about 20% it would be more inline with some other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product I needed something I could wear continuously in breezy damp 50 degree weather in different settings but I needed it to be low profile and not be bulky. I also needed pockets for hand warmth. Because I also needed it for settings in which I'd be moving around a fair amount I needed it to give a little. This jacket satisfied all those requirements. It's fitted enough that the wind doesn't get underneath it. It works a little like a wetsuit in that it uses body heat. I've had it for about a month now and it seems you can adjust pretty effectively with just a zipper lower or raise. Overall, seems well made and did well the one time I've washed it so far. Good product, guys.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice but tight foearms Lots to like about this jacket, but one fatal flaw. Good fit for us more athletic types (I'd still go for an even smaller mid section and slightly bigger chest, but this is as good as I have ever found). Material stretched nicely around chest & shoulders/arms allowing full movement while still maintaining a form fit. What went wrong? The forearms. Way too tight! And a rougher material inside the forearms that guaranteed they'd grab onto what you wore underneath it resulting in material tugging and a tight, uncomfortable fit. Marot, please update the material inside the forearms to something that slides freely and give us a bit bigger forearms. Jacket would be great then.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thin and versatile The Variant Jacket is a thin layer of synthetic insulation that stretches well and is great for climbing and other activities requiring free movement. It runs small, so I would definitely round up on sizing. I purchased it for summer ice climbing in Alaska, and it serves me well on that. It isn't incredibly warm, so a warmer jacket is a must for when you aren't being active (belaying). Still, the extra layer goes a long way on the ice and it stretches nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantastic product I have several Marmot baselayers--great product Today i used my new Variant jacket. I used it for platform tennis play . The temperature was around 50 degrees with a mild wind. I wore the jacket with a thin crew short sleeve top. I was warm and it was vowed easy to move around. I wore a large. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 180. The size was perfect. After two hours of play, while sweating a lot, the product was fantastic--comfortable and flexible. Thank you Marmot--another fantastic product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect Mid layer Honestly, I bought this because it was on sale and I was curious. But this jacket has turned into a very important piece of gear for me. I wear this over a 250 Wool long sleeve top when snowshoeing in the Cascades. The insulation on the front is absolutely perfect for keeping my core warm. The back and sides are warm enough and do an excellent job wicking moisture when I'm working. The pockets are also fleece lined and warm. The internal breast pocket is perfect for my phone. And, it is a beautiful blue! I am 6'6" and raveling arms. This jacket fits me perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket I bought the marmot variant jacket and used it several times for cold weather cycling.(around 30 is cold for me)The jacket is great at keeping your core and arms warm. I would suggest layering to ensure your comfort. The only issue that I have is the sleeves are slightly long. It’s not been an issue as I use the hand through feature with gloves. I own several marmot pieces and wear them both casually and for outdoor use, however with the athletic fit of this jacket I would not wear it outside of running, cycling, or hiking. I am a bigger guy so the fit just isn’t as comfortable for me. I’m fairly stocky and ordered an XL. It fits as it expected. Overall, very happy with the purchase and couldn’t beat the extra 25 percent off.
