A Big MissBought this for backcountry skiing and mountaineering in WY ranges. The cut, fit and features are great. The shell material, however, does not work. It is somehow both permeable from the outside but not breathable from the inside. After even mild aerobic activity my jacket is soaked through (even with maximum venting) and it looks just like several of the photos on other reviews. Oddly, the moisture seems to travel along the seams which is not only annoying but dangerous in the altitude and weather conditions I play in on a regular basis. Want to love but it can't.

Good jacket at a good priceI have owned this Jacket for several years now. It has been with me on several adventures across North America. It has held up well and keeps me dry for the most part. My only complaint is the DWR treatment wears off quickly. It seems that I have to reapply about twice a season. The heavy usage area where the pack shoulder straps come across and hip belt seem to soak easily. Also with the name Minimalist you would expect it to be lighter. Over all though I love this jacket and it has done me well over the last several years keeping me mostly dry and comfortable with its venting system.

Nice looking jacket but doesn't keep you dryI have owned this jacket for about two years. Worn casually. Purchased as a basic rain jacket. Sad to say it just won't keep you dry. A lot of moisture comes through around the shoulders...where the rain makes contact. Very disappointed given cost of jacket. Would not recommend unless you just want a nice looking jacket to wear in dry weather. I assumed the fact that it was Goretex would assure it as being very water resistant...not true in this case.

Does not keep out even relatively moderate rainI bought this jacket around 2-3 years ago and was very happy with it until the first time I had to use it in the rain. The jacket is very light and packs down very small but suffers from the crinkly crisp-packet sound of 2-layer paclite goretex. The first time I had to use it in anger it rained possibly the hardest I'd ever seen it rain. The chest pocket was fairly damp inside and water has started to wick upwards from the sleeves. Since then, in sustained rain (even if it is fairly light), the jacket soaks through to the point of wetting my clothes underneath. This happens even if I'm not working particularly hard and so I know its not just sweat condensing on the inside of the jacket. Speaking of sweat, this jacket really is not breathable at all. Even light exercise results in you feeling sweaty despite the large pit zips. I would not recommend this jacket for anything other than dealing with brief, light rain spells. Also, one of the patches over the inside of the pit-zip has started to peel.

The perfect Gore Tex parkaThe perfect Gore Tex jacket. By itself, it is a great summer rain jacket. Paired with fleece layers, it works as a fantastic winter jacket that keeps wet snow and wind out. Much higher quality than similarly priced equivalents (reviews for those items mention seam failure and getting wet despite properly using the jacket). Far less expensive than similarly built jackets in terms of quality (I tried on a very similar jacket that retailed for $650, the materials are the same). Very similar to my military Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System Gore Tex parka, but more versatile and better built.

Great but mine did not remain waterproof.I'm conflicted because I really like this jacket...I love the fit, cut, and features of this jacket and it works great over a down hoodie. There is 1 thing I have issue with...and it's kind of a big deal...
It might start out waterproof, but it didn't stay waterproof. This jacket soaks right through after a short time outdoors in the rain. Its not at the seams either- the water just soaks right through the fabric. You buy gore-tex and you expect strong waterproofing for the life of the jacket... I mean, isn't that the reason you'd spend extra for gore-tex? Not really sure if it's my fault or the fabric itself, but the gore-tex waterproofing just didn't hold up for me.
Another thing I would like to see is the fabric be a little more durable. Managed to get 2 slices in the sleeve and have no idea how. Wish there was a durability guide for stuff like this.
My impression at first was this jacket is MOST EXCELLENT, but in time mine failed to do it's job. I found it was good for medium/heavy use within the first year, but it looks like it's gonna be light use from here on out.

Great look...not waterproof. The first time I wore this jacket in the Beartooth Mountains of Montana it was brand new and yet rain soaked through in the shoulders and arms. I sent the jacket to Gore Tex due to loss of waterproofness.
Gore Tex sent me a brand new replacement and guess what? Light rain still soaks through. This coat needs to be discontinued. Totally worthless as a "rain jacket".

Nice JacketI wore in 35-40 degree temperatures the first day. The jacket kept the wind of, but had fantastic beathability. In warmer conditions I was not hot or did not sweat. Have not tried in the rain, but did watch videos in the rain on youtube. Glad I bought. Also, I am fat and the jacket still fits well with room to breath. Seams like it was made large enough to wear a down sweater underneath. Got on a deal for Christmas and worth every penny.
