Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Windproof Basically, the shell material on the upper half of the jacket offers solid windproofing, but the remaining lower 3/4 of the jacket, i.e., soft-stretch shell material is not. It cuts the wind to about about 10%. So if there is a very chill steady wind, you will be cold. I was looking for a jacket which was completely windproof, so disappointed in this product and would go as far to suggest Marmot is false advertising with its claims of "windproof". I like the general look and feel of the jacket - it has some nice pockets, hood and cinch, etc., but I think I am going to return this product. Not sure how now that I have removed the labels, but I will try.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great jacket but..... I do like this jacket but I like the old design way better. The good... The body of jacket is great and well made. The wind proofing is fantstic and its warm enough for outdoor exercise in cool weather. The bad.... Wets out almost instantly in light rain. The fit is too long and boxy. I get the idea that athletic gear really isn't made for athletes anymore. The shoulders are narrow and the fit around the middle is baggy. The arms also have no Insulation or wind protection. Again why? My arms get cold faster than my body, even during active exercise. Please bring back the old jacket fit and material. This seems like a down grade.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as the old one Overall, it's comfortable and fits me perfectly. I bought my first ROM jacket back in 2009 or 2010 and it held up really well over the past 8 or 9 years. I purchased my second ROM in late 2018. The Gore windstopper on the '09/'10 jacket is phenomenal and not as good on the '18 jacket. I'm not sure if Gore changed the windstopper fabric, but my original jacket is so much warmer. As for my most recent jacket, the inner liner was extremely itchy on bare skin (neck and arms). After wearing it for a few months, the itching isn't as bad and I am anticipating it will soften up in the in wash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My New Go To I love this jacket! Windproof, big hood and high chin zip worked perfectly for me! Wore this everyday on a 10 day trip to Iceland. worked great alone for everyday, and cut just big enough in the shoulders & upper arms so I could add a thin polar fleece when things got cold. Worked great on multiple hikes and glacier excursions. Rain surprisingly beaded up and rolled off quite well too. Loved the fact that it's a longer cut jacket. Crucial when raining and/or windy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work Horse Soft Shell I have now owned 2 Marmot ROM jackets and I can't say enough good things about them. Where many soft shell jackets make you feel like you are wearing a garbage bag, the ROM jacket is a super comfortable outer layer that performs well in a variety of environments. I wear this jacket in all seasons, and it is my go-to jacket for hiking, cross country skiing, canoeing, and fishing. The breast pocket is super handy for holding my phone/camera and the full length zipper really seals in the warmth on cold days. I have been through some pretty nasty storms in the ROM jacket, and although it isn't meant to be fully waterproof, it performs well in inclement weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Great Marmot Jacket This is my fifth Marmot jacket and it may just be my favorite one yet. I'm 6'1" and 190lbs, I ordered the large and it fits perfect. I can still sneak a layer or two underneath, but I've been using this for lighter day hikes and haven't needed too much layering. The first hike I went on with it, was rainy and very windy. After several hours I was still completely dry and no wind got through. It looks great, I love that it is a very athletic fit, higher armpits, comes in on the waist a bit, tighter sleeves. All around it's a really great shell, very breathable and comfortable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok jacket This jacket is ok. It is very thin and lightweight. It sheds water well but if you are looking for a thick shift shell, this isn’t it. I have also found that the “wind proof” claim is not accurate. It blocks some wind but allows most thru.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from all around great jacket this isn't 100% waterproof, or 100% windproof, but it is 100% comfortable and all around great jacket. If you are going to be somewhere where it rains everyday all day - buy a waterproof rain jacket, if you are going on top of the a mountain and its below freezing and winds greater than 20-30 mph bring a heavier shell, but otherwise this jacket should have you covered.
