Description
Your coldest winter expeditions and climbs require the warmest top layer, and the Men's Mt. Tyndall Hoody is up for the challenge. 800-fill-power-down offers exceptional warmth as you're scaling the hoody's namesake or another equally epic peak. Elastic cuff-gaskets at the wrists and an adjustable drawcord hem seal in warmth and keep the elements out. Articulated sleeves allow you to reach farther and make bolder moves, while its 2-way front center zipper makes your belay loop easily accessible. The attached hood with insulated muffs offers maximum coverage with an adjustable drawcord at the back that won't interfere with a helmet. Stow climbing gear in multiple zippered hand and chest pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True expedition weight parka Bought a size up to wear as a true belay/expedition weight parka and this jacket is flawless for that purpose. These kinds of jackets are getting hard to find these days with many manufacturers focusing on lighter weight materials, fill weights etc. Not this jacket. Ripstop nylon outer, 10 oz. of 800 power fill is warm and burly. At home in brutal wind and cold, the Tyndall hoody is designed for summit days on big peaks, bitter belays, waiting for you partner to second up an exposed route, etc. Don’t get me wrong, this is absolutely a climbing/alpinist piece but strikes the perfect balance of strong but light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Fit & Quality (Materials) Is this jacket warm? Absolutely, it checks the box for being a 300g fill jacket. I tried a small which was far too tight and the sleeves weren’t long enough. So I tried a medium which was so long it was a few inches off my knees snd the sleeves went past my finger tips. This jacket has a box like fit…. For sure reference, I fit a medium Rab, Arcteryx and marmot well. The material used on the outer shell seemed of poor quality and likely to tear. On the light blue, you could see the downfill inside of it. Even at 50% off, I did not think it was worth it and it was returned. Height 5’10 Weight 165lb Chest: 39in Neck: 15.5in Arm: 34.5

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and comfy its not winter yet so i have not had a chance to really try it out but so far i love this jacket. my only gripes are: there are internal elastic cuff but it would be better to also have Velcro on the outside, though i don't suppose it will make a difference when wearing gloves. i also would prefer to have a more wind proof outer material such as Pertex Quantum but again i have not tried it out in the real world so maybe the rip-stop nylon is sufficient. I also wonder if it has been treated with a DWR. on the plus side, the construction appears to be box and not sewn through, it has ample room to wear layers, the hood has excellent coverage and the jacket is very light weight. i gave it 5 stars but really i would give it 4.5 due to the cuffs and material, but time will tell and i can hardly wait for winter to really try it out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One warm puffy Bought this for a winter camping trip in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. After a day of breaking trail snowshoeing you are used to being in basically a thin fleece all day because of the amount of heat you're generating. Stopping to make camp suddenly drops body heat substantially. I used to have an almost absurd layering system comprising a base layer, fleece, synthetic puffy, rain shell, and another down puffy on top of all. The UP is regularly in the single digits to negative digits in the winter months. Humidity is also incredibly high causing a lot of insulation, down included, to not loft as efficiently. Took a gamble on this hoody because of the amount of 800 fill down they packed in. Picked it up for $283 shipped (...it later dropped to $160 a week later but we don't have to dwell on that) which I felt was a bargain compared to the Patagonia Grade VII or the Eddie Bauer Peak XV. I like the minimal design and packability of this jacket. Wonderful warmth in a very light package. Could have used an additional interior pocket for drying socks/hats/gloves but the one on the right is rather ample in size. Would also like a way to tighten up the arm cuffs as they stretch out a bit (see photo) It's amazing how different sizing can be even within single company. My Marmot XXL rain shell could benefit from being a little larger and longer like this XXL coat. Fit me as expected with PLENTY of room to layer without compressing the down. Pros: *Incredibly warm and wind resistant (not sure about water resistance) *Very packable. *Expedition (Solar) yellow is great for visibility. *Great price IMO even at full price. Cons: *Fabric does appear to be thin as you can see the down through it. *Arm cuffs get a little loose. *Could be more water resistant/proof? Not even sure what the outer material is made of reading the description. Zipper is finicky which isn't ideal in the cold and wearing gloves. Now make some proper down pants to match!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maximum Warmth with Minimum Weight This was one of the rare occasions when I tried an item of clothing on and instantly knew it was a keeper. The fit, the style, the quality - this coat has it all. I was taken back by how little it weighed when first picking it up and then equally amazed by how well it fitted considering its obvious bulk. Make no mistake, this coat could never be described as slim-fitting as it has a considerable girth but its mighty dimensions result in a superior warm and cosy outer layer I can see myself wearing for years to come to protect me from the elements. A true King of the Mountain!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, not great I have a Marmot Greenland Baffled Jacket from a few years back, and LOVE it for use as a beefy 6000m mountaineering parka. The pockets are perfectly located, the warmth to weight ratio is excellent, and it's well-stuffed with high-quality down. I was looking to get something similar, and this Mt. Tyndall Hoody comes close, but just misses the mark by a little in a number of key areas. One, fit was WAY off. I expect an outer layer like this to be a tad big to allow for lofting of other layers underneath, but the medium recommended by the sizing chart was not even close. Second, the pockets were in kind of a weird spot for wearing a harness. Not an inaccessible spot, just not an ideal one. Maybe this was necessitated by the inner baffling design? Third, and most importantly, the down in this hoody just wasn't NEARLY as well-lofted as that prior jacket I have. Supposedly there's a similar amount of down, and to confirm, I did give the product several days to repuff from its condensed shipped state, but I can tell easily it won't be as warm as that prior jacket. If you're looking for a decent mountaineering jacket, and you don't mind this one being colder than other 6000m jackets, and you can find this at a discount, it's not a bad choice. But I was disappointed that it's off the mark, especially for around the same price I got my previous Marmot jacket, and I returned it for other offerings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Real Deal This is a real deal serious expedition/belay puffy. I wouldn't bring it unless expecting subzero F temps. Perfect feature set for actual mountain use: hood that works with helmets, large interior glove pocket, good size exterior chest pocket, also has two hand warmer pockets that could be left off next time. Exterior fabric seems really awesome, not just standard nylon. Time will tell on durability, but it seems like it will be great. My tag says 300 g/m2 of 800 fill down. I'm normally a men's Large in marmot, with broad shoulders and an XL is the right size to go over other layers but still able to wear on its own. If you need a truly warm belay jacket, for sitting around in super cold temps, this is for you. Anyone complaining about this must not understand what it is really for. Thank you for making this Marmot!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gift Champion at Last! My husband is one of those “I already have everything I need” people who is hard to gift, but he is OBSESSED with this jacket from Santa. It’s truly warm (we live in Maine) and while it is puffy, it has nice shape and style. He’s happy every time he puts it on—so daily—which counts for a lot in a pandemic. He’s 6’2”, 230 dad bod in XL and it looks great. Treat yourself!
