Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Cold Weather Rain Coat I love this jacket! It is perfect for cold rainy weather. I have spent a long time looking for a rain jacket that will also keep me warm. Many rain jackets are simply shells that provide little warmth. The Solaris jacket has the perfect amount of insulation for cold rainy days. Plus, the Gore-Tex membrane will keep both the rain and the wind out. This jacket will not replace my winter jacket, but it’s great for Spring and Fall weather. One other feature that I love on this Jacket is that the hood is also insulated. This fact is not obvious from the product description, but it certainly adds to the comfort and functionality of the jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made. Warm. Too narrow in the hips. This is a great jacket. Warm, well made, light. The only issue, and it is a fairly significant issue for me, is that it is "athletic fit" cut at the waist. IT tapers much more than the picture details. I wear a large coat/jacket normally. I had to exchange this for an XL to provide room for layering at the waist. The large fits, but won't provide additional room for sweater or anything worn on your belt. I traded extra space at the waist for larger shoulders and arms than I need. I still highly recommend this jacket, but wish they offered a wider waist cut option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this jacket I bought this jacket in February as an everyday winter coat and a ski jacket backup. It's been a pleasure. It's very light yet has warm insulation for cold days. I was recently in NYC walking around and sight seeing for a weekend and it was perfect. Not too warm for a spring day and during the rain I was completely dry without any of that steamy feeling you'd get from a raincoat. The hood is large and has a brim to keep your face dry. The pockets are large enough to hold a playbill without wrinkling it! There are also vents in the tops of the pocket zippers if you get too warm. I wish there were a bit of Velcro on the hood to stow it when not needed, but Marmot can add that tweak to the next version. Inside are two nice zippered pockets that are great to hold things like glasses, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and good mobility I am just finishing a ski trip in Utah. I only wore a T-shirt and Henley type shirt and was plenty warm. This jacket has a hood that fits too tight over a ski helmet to use, but you really don’t need this with snow and skiing. I am 6 ft and 195lbs. The large size jacket is a little too big, not sure if a medium would fit better or be too small. Totally water proof. Good jacket for skiing. Thin feeling outer shell and very light jacket but fairly warm. Very wind proof.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid ski jacket Bought this for cold weather skiing and tested it out last week in Colorado. It held up very well in very cold temperatures: -2 to 15 on the first day and 10-22 on the second day. It’s lightweight and fits true to size. The chest vents are a bit unusual but easy to get used to. One thing that is lacking is that the pockets are not fleece lined and the hood is not detachable - these are features I found on similarly priced jackets from other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this jacket! I purchased this jacket looking for an insulated, waterproof shell that was not to bulky or stiff. After researching several jackets, I chose the Solaris and am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The Solaris has a lightweight feel and just the right amount of insulation for the relatively mild Sierra Nevadan winters in California. The jacket has weathered a snowstorm and rain without swamping or leaks. I use this jacket daily for my bicycle commute to and from work and find it provides the perfect amount of comfort for my winter ride. As for sizing, I am 5'10" and weigh around 190 with an athletic build. I went back and forth between the medium and large and ended up purchasing the medium. I am happy that I did. The jacket is larger that my other medium jackets providing ample room for unrestricted movement and layering when necessary. The sleeves are a bit long, but not an issue. I am very happy with my purchase and have no regrets. This has quickly become my favorite jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Function AND Style I don't think the concept and design of this jacket could be better, and it is extremely well made. Fit gives me room for a light layer underneath if needed. I thought the steel gray color looks a little blue-gray on the website, but it's actually more of a charcoal - I'm fine either way. Here's my problem: it looks so good I find that I might rather use it around town than make it the go-to jacket for hiking in inclement weather as I intended. Really, though, I think it could serve both functions for many years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thermal R insulation + Goretex = magic? Bought this jacket on a gamble (no reviews at the time) to handle the mild, San Francisco Bay Area winter and it’s become my favorite jacket I own. Fully zipped with the hood on and wearing just a t-shirt and button-down, the jacket is warm enough for 45 F while standing around doing nothing and for 25 F while walking. Haven’t had a chance to test it in colder weather. It’s hard to get too hot while wearing it, so even in my 70 degree office I don’t feel like I’m in a sauna, yet in just below freezing weather I feel protected. It seems to compress the range of temperatures you’ll experience, which is fantastic. And if you need them, the vents work pretty well. The hood fits, and works, great. I’ve worn this jacket in the snow, rain, and even a short test in the bathroom shower and it didn’t leak. Parts of the exterior will seem to wet out when you experience heavy rain, but I just lightly blot it dry and it feels immediately dry to the touch. The shoulders bead water for a bit and eventually wet out because I wear a heavy backpack with this jacket often, but they dry quickly too. The jacket is unexpectedly silky smooth on the inside, way better than even the sleeping bag-like lining some jackets use. The exterior is unexpectedly soft too, making for a soft, comfy feeling jacket that feels great to slip on. I’d like to have seen fleece-lined pockets but it’s fine. Friends and family who’ve tried it on have commented on how unexpectedly light and warm it is. A Marmot Rep told me that the Thermal R insulation is continuous filament (but she did not say this next part), so it should be more durable than short-filament insulation, and it will be less likely to shift around and cause cold spots. Good stuff.
