Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stunning coat I bought this a month ago, then returned and picked up a size smaller as the medium I usually wear was too big. As a heads up, the sleeves are quite long for this jacket. They aren't in proportion with the rest of jacket construction. Overall the jacket looks great and I was immediately getting compliments out of the box. Planning on wearing it over a suit jacket for work, or casually around town as the jacket can fit both. I'm not from a truly cold place (Atlanta) and it's great for the weather here. Probably overkill, but I don't like being cold. I travel a lot over North America for work and I could see myself wearing it anywhere. The waterproofness on the outside is also really great. Wicks away water like a raincoat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice winter coat This is a nice winter coat. It is warm for how thin the insulation feels. Worn it in -5C windy Chicago winter with only a cotton base layer underneath, and it is warm without feeling clammy. Regarding sizing, I'm 182cm and 80kg and got an M. The cut is a bit boxy (but not to the extent of feeling too bulky), presumably to leave room for layering. Unlike an earlier reviewer, arm length feels right to me. Only issue I have is that the collar, when zipped up, still leaves too much room around the neck and lets the wind in. Maybe not an issue if you wear a scarf or other neck protection. For this I took off one star. The "Thindown" insulation, which, if I understand correctly, is a new kind of pressed construction without using baffles. I personally like it for the reduced bulk, but at lower temperatures, heat retention might not be as good as traditional, higher-loft baffled down (purely speculation though). The Schoeller C-Change shell is waterproof in theory (as it has a membrane) but doesn't seem to have DWR coating (so it should protect the down insulation from getting wet, but won't stop the wool exterior from soaking in heavy rain?) Magnetic "buttoning" is a nice touch. Hood is zipped to the coat and removable (don't know why Marmot says it's "fixed"). There is also a hidden external pocket on the right rear side. Useful for keys, wallet and such, saves the trouble of unzipping the coat to reach into pants pocket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from There's a lot more to this I bought a gray Giorgio coat a few months ago. Here are a few things that aren't mentioned: *The twill parts of the coat aren't shiny and smooth. The fabric actually has a textured, matte finish. It's sort of like a corduroy. *C-Change is a waterproof, breathable membrane. *The down filling is different from the loose down that is usually blown and sewn into parkas and jackets. It's an insulation called Thindown. Thindown makes the Giorgio as warm as a puffy winter outer layer without the bulk. There also isn't any leakage of feathers or down through seams or stitching, which is a major advantage over traditional down. *The hood is removable. It has a zipper that attaches it to the back of the collar and two elastic bands that anchor it to the front of the jacket. It isn't that adjustable though, especially compared to more technical jackets. It's lined with a plush synthetic material. *The main zipper is a chunky two-way chain zipper. I like that. The rest of the zippers are small gauge coil zippers. I'm not a big fan of tiny coil zippers on pockets because they tend to get caught in the jacket lining. It's also hard to use them with gloves on. *Thanks to the person who mentioned the hidden pocket! OK, so what is it like to actually wear this thing? Well, first off, the cut is generous and makes layering easy. I don't feel the sizing is off the charts though. Most of my Marmot gear is Medium, as is my Giorgio. While there is room to wear a mid layer easily, the fit isn't so big that I wish I had a Small. The sleeves are a bit long but that's fine in cold weather when you don't want a gap between gloves and jacket. The overall thickness is similar to a wintertime wool overcoat. You know, the kind that are worn with a suit and tie. Or, for fans of technical gear, close to a thick fleece + waterproof hardshell setup. Either way, it's noticeably thinner and sleeker than a puffer. I haven't worn the Giorgio in snowy conditions because I purchased it after the cold season ended. But with only a cotton single layer underneath, I was quite warm in upper 40-degree Fahrenheit weather. I think a base layer plus insulating mid layer would easily let you use the Giorgio in below freezing temperatures. Other than the coil zippers, the only thing that isn't great about this overcoat is the logo. I do like that it is on the hem and is fairly subtle. However, it's made of glued-on plastic letters. That's kind of tacky on such an otherwise top-of-the-line garment! Four stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elegant meets functional! This coat is great for pretty much all occasions. It’s durable, yet classy. It’s very warm and great for those really frigid days. It’s not overly warm on days that aren’t arctic either. I’m very slender and tall, I bought a large which is a little baggy on me. I went with large because of the length in the arms, but probably could have bought a medium and had a better fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp look and warmer than expected Having never owned a Marmot jacket I was not sure about buying a brand online I did not have familiarity with, however, after 3 weeks I’m liking this jacket more and more. Living in Chicago, I am confident that this coat will get the job done when Jan/Feb come around. I’m 5’10 175 and the medium fits me well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth Every Penny!! I bought this during a season end closeout sale at a steep discount. Although it was an expensive purchase, I would do it again in a heartbeat. We had a cold snap after it arrived, and all I can say is warm, warm, warm. It is windproof, which is important to me living on top of a mountain. The attention to details like the wide gathered cuffs inside the sleeves, the faux fur lined hood, and magnetic front closure over the zipper are greatly appreciated. It is a sharp looking, warm coat. I’m looking forward to a full season of use before passing final judgement, but if my cold spring experience is a harbinger of things to come, I will be very excited to have this coat when November’s winds come a-howling again. It does run large, so you may want to consider sizing down on this coat. I did, and still have room for a sweater, or bulkier items underneath it. Although I couldn’t afford it at full price, I would buy it again, especially with the discount.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looks and very warm I got a Large, I am 6’3” and 200 lbs and it fits great. Looks very classy and is super warm. I wore this in the snow in cold weather with just a T shirt on under and was warm. Great for when you want to wear a down coat but still look somewhat dressed up.

Warm, good looking, hand pockets are huge and lined with softness, hood lining is soooo soft and comfy, water and wind don’t stand a chance to the shell, the double zipper is big and easy to use, the magnetic wind flap is super neat and convenient.
