Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted This jacket is very light but waterproof and windproof. I used it over a light puffy on a recent backpacking trip on a windy evening and the combo was just what I needed for warmth. I'm high on the high side of "small" but there was enough room for a base layer and my light puffy under this jacket. I have used it twice in rain and it is fully waterproof. (It is NOT an insulated jacket; if you don't have anything between your skin and this jacket in the rain it will feel like rain is penetrating but it is not. If you sweat, expect to get somewhat damp; it takes a while for moisture to migrate out of this or any waterproof membrane jacket.)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for just-in-case Obviously super light and packs down. This is great to have when you don't think the weather will turn, but would be screwed if it did. I have mine in a third party stuff bag that's always on my harness when climbing in the alpine. However if you know the weather will be coming in, bring a heavier duty jacket. Note on the durability: During a nice little shiver bivy under a boulder in the Winds I wore the Bantam as my outer most layer. I expected it to be full of holes in the morning, but to my surprise it survived the night without even a scratch! However, the next week it ripped while sport climbing. So is it tough? It seems to depend on the use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a jacket with everything At long last I have found the jacket that doesn’t compromise quality, features and compactness. Is it going to be your snowboarding shell? Probably not, but it’s going to be the go-to rain cover for 90% of outdoor and civilian life. Plus it’s so dang small and light weight that you can throw it in a bag and forget about it until you need it. It’s wild that no other companies have something that’s fully able to rival this, so I’ll sing it’s praises until they do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sets a new high bar for ultralight rain protection The first thing you'll notice and my favorite feature, the zippered pockets. Not something you typically find in this weight class, the zippers are waterproof and the inner mesh is stretchy and soft. They're great for throwing your gloves and hat in after you've warmed up or snacks for the trail, and personally I just like to rest my hands in jacket pockets when standing around. The left pocket also has an interior mesh pocket that will fit any size phone and more. That same pocket serves as a stuff pocket and is the easiest one I've ever used on a jacket, no forcing the last bits of fabric in while trying to pull the zipper without catching it. Another great aspect of the jacket is the slight stretch material that moves with you with running. It's a very thin fabric so you don't want to use it for any off-trail exploration through heavy vegetation; but it doesn't feel fragile or require babying for normal use. The waterproof Pertex Shield material did really well in a 15-minute test in my shower, the seams are taped so no wetting out or leaking. It's an ultralight rain jacket though, if you use it in all day heavy rain it will wet out quicker vs a heavy 3-layer Gore-Tex jacket. The material also feels nice on the skin when dry. Like all rain jackets, if you run hot like me or are working hard, it will get sweaty inside in temps over 50˚ when it's not raining. Since I tend to get really warm quickly when running I can't really say if the underarm laser-drilled holes helped, but considering most jackets in this weight class have no underarm ventilation I'll take it. It also has a cinchable hood and waist cord, making it really easy to seal up in windy weather. The cuffs aren't fully elastic but the non-elastic side has a longer fabric shield and it should improve breathability; even with small wrists I actually liked it more and never had an issue with it. To be honest, I can't really think of much to improve for what it's designed for, they really put a lot of thought and design effort into this jacket. It's straight up the best ultralight jacket out there and will probably have a place in my pack for almost every mountain adventure! Notes: I have a size medium so it can be layered with a midweight puffy or fleece. I really like the blue color and the keeping the logo small is a nice touch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bantam as heck! I bought this almost exactly a month ago and it has literally saved my life. Okay, so not "literally", but it is spring in Kentucky which means rain, persistent rain. And whether a gentle mist or a torrential downpour this jack has surpassed my expectations. Yes, it's unbelievably light. Yes, it provides an excellent barrier to that rain. And critically, yes, I don't immediately overheat. Okay, I'm going out and buying a second.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This jacket makes me want to get out in the rain I've tried a lot of rain jackets over the years but none have matched the performance of the Bantamweight. It's ultralight and compactable which means you can keep it in your pack at all times just in case you run into random rainfall. I was a little worried at how thin the jacket was when I got it but the Pertex Shield with Ripstop makes it strong and durable. Scraped it on some rocks rappelling and caught it on a few tree branches hiking, no rips or scuff marks. The biggest thing I like about the jacket however is the ventilation it has. Laser drilled holes in the underarms allows the heat and moisture to evaporate out while your hauling up a mountain or moving up a climbing route. Ventilation isn't always seen on jackets of this weight so its a really nice feature to have. Say goodbye to moisture build up and a sweaty upper body. The fits is also right on par for me. I am 6'4" about 170lb and the Medium feels like it is customized to me. The adjustable cords also help a lot to keep the jacket snug and in place during various activities. Do yourself a favor and spend the money for this jacket. You'll be very happy you did the first time you throw it on during a rainstorm while our exploring.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overall good. Not waterproof when hiking Really happy with everything about this jacket except the claimed waterproof rating. The small drillholes in the armpits let water in when hiking. I purchased this jacket for an ultralight backpacking rain protection layer and after 2hrs of medium rain my torso was completely soaked through and cold. Now I own a really expensive windbreaker.
